Update: COVID-19 Lab Reporting & COVID-19 Reportable Conditions as of May 4, 2020

Healthcare providers who diagnose cases of COVID-19 in patients that fit into the following three categories should immediately report them to LDH using the secure online portal. Once the report is received, an epidemiologist will review and follow up if any further information is required for the public health investigation.

COVID-19 Reportable Conditions:

  • COVID-19-associated mortality: All deaths occurring in individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 or who have a COVID-19 positive lab result.
  • Pediatric hospitalizations: Hospitalizations in individuals <18 years old who have a COVID-19 positive lab result.
  • COVID-19 during pregnancy: Infections in individuals who are pregnant and have a COVID-19 positive result.

LDH Health Alert Network (HAN) Message 20-32: Update - COVID-19 Lab Reporting and COVID-19 Reportable Conditions also provides information about lab test reporting, and clarifies the reporting requirement when a facility performs the test and when the facility sends the specimen out for COVID-19 testing. Please review the HAN for this information.
