LAMMICO's Commitment to Insureds During COVID-19

LAMMICO is closely monitoring the developments of COVID-19 in order to ensure continuity of service to our insureds and to protect our employees. To proactively prevent the spread of the virus in our offices, additional safety protocols have been put in place for our employees and visitors.

Please be aware that the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health recently adopted an Emergency Rule that adds coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)/infections with SARS-CoV-2 to the list of Class A diseases that require reporting within 24 hours. It additionally requires reporting of all laboratory tests for COVID-19, whether positive or negative, within 24 hours of test results.

I would also like to point out that Louisiana has immunity laws for public health emergencies that should provide protection during these trying times. These laws were enacted after other crises, namely 9/11, anthrax and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In the event of claims arising from this current pandemic, these statutes would be raised in providing your defense. LAMMICO has been there to support you through the past crises, and we are here to support you through this one as well.

Most of our staff are currently working remotely. Our Metairie office will remain open with limited personnel. Although our Baton Rouge and Shreveport offices are closed, employees in those offices are likewise working remotely to meet your needs. LAMMICO is well-positioned to have a remote workforce since remote capabilities have been an integral part of our business continuity plan for many years. Consequently, there should be no interruption of service to our insureds. We will continue to meet your needs, especially in the areas of coverage and issuance of policies and certificates of insurance, claim reporting and claim management, and risk management. We continue to be available to you by telephone during our normal business hours (Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). Please do not hesitate to reach out to us and our family of companies - Medical Interactive Community, Elatas Risk Partners and LAMMICO Risk Retention Group.

The well-being of our insureds has always been and continues to be of paramount importance to us. Our commitment to you as a long-term stable source of medical professional liability insurance has enabled us to fulfill your needs during times of weather crises, terrorist attacks and reduced availability of insurance coverage. We remain committed to helping you navigate this latest crisis, so I encourage you to reach out to us with your questions, concerns and insurance needs. We are here for you.

I appreciate the efforts and sacrifices those of you on the front lines of patient care are making. Thank you for your dedication.
